Dry needling is a treatment technique that involves the insertion of an acupuncture needle into a part of the body. At VSRC all of our Osteopaths are trained in the technique and it is a great to use in conjunction with other treatment techniques for your ailments.
Dry needling can be great to use in the treatment of:
- Headaches
- Jaw pain
- Shoulder injuries (such as rotator cuff and postural complaints)
- Low back pain including sciatica
- Glute/buttocks pain and piriformis syndrome
- Hamstring and Glute tendinopathies
- Knee pain
- Shin splints
- Plantarfascitis
- Tennis/Golfers Elbow
The technique itself is often relatively painless and the needle can stay in place for a few seconds to a few minutes, or until enough change is felt in the tissue.
Dry needling is a very well researched technique and has very strong positive effects on the nervous system to improve pain levels, decrease hyperactivity of the nerves and muscles, improve blood flow and healing of injured tissues.
With any technique it is vital that it is conducted by a trained professional and an appropriate pre screening process is conducted. As a result we will always ask a few extra questions in the history process, physical examination and consent is required throughout all parts of the process.
